Hello & welcome back,
He did it! Entire internet in the UK exploded with emotions and envious need to say something hateful, masked as joy yesterday. It’s a sign of what might be the end of the world king - the whole country agreed on something together. It should be a good thing, but I'm afraid it’s just another confirmation of reality that our society is only able to unite when it’s comfortable and too obvious.
First of all - it’s too late and we missed the opportunity to show politicians what we actually want by taking to the streets, using our right to protest while we can. BJ resigning will buy Crooks Tories time to regroup and save the last bits of credibility left. If BJ stays until election, there will be none left and that would help to send them where they belong to for a decade or two. Do you argue that his resignation will save more damage? Sure, but the damage on the entire country and far beyond has been done brutally since he took office and no one protested.
Meanwhile in the event industry we are heading the way every industry is going through for a while now. Corporations running festivals are deepening inequality, contracting superstar djs and paying them so much money that independent promoters can now completely rethink their business model. It’s pretty much the same situation as with Jeff & boys in other industries - the independent promoters can experience how independent online shops feel in amazon times. The result is that small festivals are half empty or cancelled after forcing booked local artists, in some cases even ticket buyers, to sell tickets for them. Why? Simply because it’s more comfortable just to do the same thing as before the pandemic, without trying to be creative and think about new business models, new ways of running events, its size, or environment. If promoters expected people to buy tickets with the same excitement as before the pandemic, after being charged multiple times for events which never happened… We can only wish good luck with that.
On a brighter note, remember this name - Ionic Originals. It’s a… “pinnacle of recorded sound” which is coming to save the music industry by introducing a brand new magical format of music reproduction - a CD record. Or something like that. Format it is, new is the idea of combining the worst (CD) and the most pleasurable (vinyl), and the magic is the price and the lack of any technical information. The music scene is saved now, cos the first release has been sold for £1.48mil and that’s probably a better start as the NFT Ponzi scheme had.
Last - the cat is out of the bag, and the only festival I hoped will happen this year just announced the good news! Field Maneuvers is one of those few small festivals which hold the spirit of rave alive and I can't wait to escape reality and explore the expanding sonic universe.
Thank you for reading and stay connected

It Takes Time Review Corner - Inaugural July Dispatch / by Tony Poland
✧ Pontiac Streator - Sone Glo - West Mineral Ltd ✧This one has been on daily repeat for the past couple of weeks. A really cohesive album of subaqueous beat constructions for Huerco S’ label feat. a wider cast of like-mind peeps such as Perila and Ben Bondy. I read somewhere, The Quietus I think, that it's really hard to discern where the ‘one’ is a lot on this album and that rings too true; lots of space to get lost in the mix and such a nice place to remain lost. One of those albums that comes along and just grips your senses and demands your time and attention.
✧ Decha - La vida te busca - Malka Tuti ✧ Huge fan of Detlef Weinrich’s TORESCH project for Offen Music (shouts to Vladimir) so it was particularly embarrassing I had no idea of this Decha solo project from his band-mate Viktoria Wehrmeister. Massive shouts to the nice lady behind the counter at Glasgow’s Monorail who tipped me to this album, Viktoria’s second as Decha, a few months back. RIYL Cucina Povera, Lucrecia Dalt, Tolouse Low Trax mixtapes or getting wavey at the Salon Des Amateurs.
✧ Areliz Ramos - Frío - Where To Now?✧ Areliz Ramos is a new name to me, but Frío is a real trip! It's the latest in a long line of superb releases from the Where To Now? Label, who have cultivated a very handy knack of introducing compelling musical voices from the outer fringes. Listened to as a whole, it almost comes across as a mixtape, such is the way the sonics slip moods and styles and take new corners within the duration of a track. Some very crisp rhythmic programming and sound design happening here! If you want a w*nky comparison, picture Mark Fell reworking Smurphy’s cult 2015 album A Shapeless Pool Of Lovely Pale Colours Suspended In The Darkness. Go check!
That’s all for this week
