Hello and welcome back,
Learning new things is not always an exciting process and sometimes it literally hurts. In the last season of A Few Good Old Men soap opera that showcases every year in Davos, we could learn that if we change the wealth of the 10 richest people into US dollar bills and stack them on each other, the pile would reach halfway to the moon (roughly 192 200 km or 36h in a spacecraft). This year we can learn new tricks. Ready?
The new season is packed with action in its first two episodes. It’s undeniable that things are getting serious when millionaires are asking governments to tax them more. Yes you read it right. They call themself Patriotic Millionaires. As surreal as it seems, it’s just a simple reflection of the times we live in. We’ve reached Patriotic Millionaires to comment on the matter and donate 1% of their wealth to Netil Radio so we can save the scene better than the infamous and very shocked ticket seller. We’ll keep you posted 🖖
So what’s the plot? The wealthiest 1% took over nearly two-thirds of all new wealth worth $42 trillion created since 2020, almost twice as much money as the rest of the world’s population, according to the new Oxfam report. It also says, “Billionaire fortunes are increasing by $2.7bn a day, even as inflation outpaces the wages of at least 1.7 billion workers, more than the population of India.”
In the next dramatic plot twist we can learn that Elon Musk is not just a unique visionary, but also an ordinary tax offender. To the shock of all elon-bots, his rival Jeff + two other white seniors are smarter than our genius, as they managed to pay even less in taxes or actual zero at some point. What a trick!
For years, there’s been something of a competition among elite founder-CEOs to go even lower. Steve Jobs took $1 in salary when he returned to Apple. Meta’s Zuckerberg and Google’s Larry Page have all done the same. Yet this is not the self-effacing gesture it appears to be: Wages are taxed at a high rate. The top 25 wealthiest Americans reported $158 million in wages in 2018, according to the IRS data. That’s a mere 1.1% of what they listed on their tax forms as their total reported income. The rest mostly came from dividends, the sale of stock, bonds or other investments, which are taxed at lower rates than wages. Remember this guy who tried to solve the environmental crisis?
Back in the 99% plebs’ reality, we still have some unelected rich people telling us things about fantastic services, challenging times and tough decisions they have to make while they abuse basic human rights and steal taxpayers money… General strike anyone?
Thank you for reading and stay connected

✧✧✧ Only Voice Remains is an Iranian collective operating with transnational, queer and feminist values. They came together in response to the current revolution taking place in Iran and Kurdistan against the Islamic Republic of Iran. Their most recent project sets out to amplify the radical narratives of the current moment and seek collective strategies of resistance. Materials were gathered from an open call and online research, then into a 1 hour sound piece consisting of voice notes, poetry, music, readings, reflections, protest sounds and speeches. Only Voice Remains hopes to use their sonic projects as an archive as well as a starting point for workshops and collective reflections ✧✧✧
That’s all for this week, stay tuned
