Hello & welcome back,
The latest editorial pokes the giant well, and we would like to thank everyone who sent in their opinions and tips. We've decided to dedicate a special series to the issue, and the pilot episode will be published in June. With festival season on the horizon, it might be a good opportunity to read, experience, and contemplate. Next week, we'll let you know how you can contribute to the effort.
This week, let's focus back on politics, as something that most of you don't care about is about to happen. Our PowerPoint presentation-driven government is going to use this opportunity to strip the last bits of our right to protest and exercise our freedom. I understand that the post-COVID lethargy is very comfortable, and everyone is tired of the permanent crisis mode. But hey, no one said this generation would have it all without a fight. If you haven't caught on yet, the world is burning, and our leaders would like to create an authoritarian version of democracy. Why? Because they can.
Fifteen years ago, I came to a very different country. It was a time of free techno afterhours at Cafe 1001, hippie characters on Brick Lane, and the gentrification of Hackney was still in its early stages. You didn't have to spend half of your wage on rent. There was an atmosphere of opportunities, excited demand for creativity, and new ideas were taken seriously. Then the "economic crisis" came, the Tories won the election, and the rest is history.
Today, the UK is a very different country, and I'm starting to feel like I did in 1988 as a kid or in 1998 as a young creative back home in Slovakia. The first time, one dictatorship was falling; the second time, another tried to take over. Right now, I feel like capitalism is falling, and the elite is choosing the most incompetent way of solving all issues—the hard hand of the law. History tells us that people are able to kneel and obey if it's comfortable, and when reality hits, it's usually too late. If you don't believe me, ask the russians who are fully in or the Hungarians who are halfway through.
I'm speaking to you—the generation of modern rave. Rave was always a form of resistance, resistance to the broken system, resistance to oppression. What happened? When did the escape from reality to express resistance become just an escape? Someone is taking away your right to r express your freedom right now. Where is the loud soundsystem roaring the sound of resistance, the sound of the future right next to striking nurses and teachers? The time is now.
The perfect soundtrack to mobilize, prepare the banners, and brush the dust off the speaker rigs is here. Thank you for reading, and stay connected.
