Hello and welcome back,
Last week was intense all round… I don't even know where to start. Maybe with something positive: the Ukrainian army took some parts of their country back from the paws of Russian terrorists. The way they did it revealed Putin’s army to be farcical and outdated, just like his ideas of the Russian empire. The best part is that all the countries that have been forced into this imaginary empire are exercising its strength right now. The results are promising.
Meanwhile inside Russia, the numbers of mysterious deaths among oligarchs are rising. Wikipedia has dedicated a whole page to this phenomenon. And the Emperor? He is concerned about the use of alcohol... In Russia.
Back to our own former empire. We have a new king, and our new unelected government has decided to use the great opportunity of the mourning period, to abuse their power as much as possible. Their favourite practice is “lifting,” lifting heavy stuff like the cap on banker’s bonuses, or the fracking ban. This requires a calm environment without annoying protesters… not too dissimilar to the orderly queue winding its way around London today to give people their 30 seconds in front of the Queen.
Don't get me wrong. I respect the right to mourn, and as a guy from Slovakia I think it’s the right thing to do. The queen is something like our president, and if our president dies, we mourn too. But to stop the country for ten days, in the midst of big changes in Downing street, the energy crisis and a war in Europe feels fishy to me.
My suggestion is that we wait until all the mourning ends and then we get back to protesting. There is no bright future for us without resistance. In the meantime, we have a great soundtrack to keep the fire burning.
Thank you for reading and stay connected.
