Words
Hello and welcome back,
It’s been a short week and a long weekend. I managed to do it the way most people do (or don’t) - I went off to Wales for a rave. And it was a good decision. We have a special word in Slovak; ‘rozjímať, a verb which sits somewhere between musing, meditating and contemplating. Wales is the perfect place for it. Plus, I was surrounded by nice people, great music and open minded listeners. It was everything I could’ve hoped for. Big shout out to auratekh and sonic rites for organising such a gathering. I hope more and more promoters will follow this path.
Coming back by train brought me back to the reality I’d been escaping from. I was the only person wearing a mask on the coach. I know we don’t have to wear them now, but we don’t have to brush our teeth either. In Japan, people will wear a mask anytime they feel a little weak (pandemic or otherwise.) Westerners can’t conceptualise this. Our privilege is showing.
We all want to live in a better world, where there are no wars, no greed and the water falls up. But our intentions can easily get sidetracked when we focus on small details and ignore the bigger picture. The story of the Anthropocene is the story of one challenge after another, and we all know that more challenges will inevitably arise. But there is one dark force which runs through all of history. Nowadays we call it corruption. It’s existed as long as we can remember, like a shadow-symbiote to humanity (or perhaps a parasite?)
The difference is that nowadays we can see corruption playing out in real-time online. It’s crucial to focus not just on the details and postable “content,” but on the bigger picture. The problem with the UK's prime minister, for example, is not a “partygate”, but him and his government’s corrupted minds. And corruption is not just about dirty money. Corruption is about using political power for personal profit. Corruption is when resources needed for society are stolen by figures of power, and when our social safety net is shattered, leaving vulnerable people unprotected.
Our 21st century war, with its cruelty to civilians and numerous war crimes, shows how important it is to tackle corruption. The brutality of the Russian army wouldn’t be possible without funds stolen from the public. The infamous battleship Moskva (the only one they had) costs the same as two Russian oligarchs’ yachts. So far there have been yachts worth $2billion confiscated worldwide including the biggest yacht in the world. There are all the Russian battleships, modern weapons and well trained soldiers. Dissolved in luxury.
Time for us to ask the right questions and listen to Netil Radio while we learn how to rozjímať well.
Thank you for reading and stay connected

Faery’s tips / catch Faery every 3rd Friday of the month 9-11pm
✧ Konsudd - Glimmer ✧ This was one of those releases I knew I’d love before even listening to it. It’s a collaborative project between Konduku and Aa Sudd - two producers who I massively admire - and their sound melds together perfectly to produce the very best dubby, spaced-out dnb.
✧ Adhémar - In Praise Of The Plant ✧ This whole album is great, but it’s the two Toki Fuko remixes that come right at the end that really grabbed me - they have that incredible feeling of spaciousness that Fuko always manages to create so well.
✧ Anatolian Weapons - May That war Be cursed Vol. 2 ✧ Anatolian Weapons has just put out this incredible four volume project, raising money for Ukrainian humanitarian aid, with remixes by so many great producers. Vol. 2 is probably my favourite - the remixes by A Strange Wedding and Christian Coiffure are crazy good!
