Welcome back to Netil Radio Weekly,
There is plenty of excitement at our HQ’s these days. The First offering of something we always wanted - but never really managed is finally here! Our brand new tote bags are in the office!! The rest of cool things to wear and use are incoming. Before we introduce all the goodies to you, you can win our tote and be one of the first people on earth having it 🤩 Simply share this newsletter on any platform you like and send us a screenshot to newsletter@netilradio.com with “Tote-ally useful and pretty” in the subject of email. We will choose three (3) lucky winners.
In the meantime, book your tables for our first radio dj performance outside of our “Box of Love” after the pandemic. On the 22nd of May, we are taking a whole day program to Number 90’s new outdoor space, as a part of their 7th Birthday Weekend celebration. Seyi, Slauka, Christina D and GG can’t wait to see you there!
I apologise for throwing my face on the tote bag promo, but Shimmy decided she would rather operate the camera, and there was no better model around 🤷♀️ Out to Camille Walala cos this jacket always makes me look much better as reality is.

New Music
This week’s warrior of sharing his inspiration - ROUGH sent us his music tips:
Loraine James: Reflection - As we are used to it by now, Loraine James is delivering quality music for quite a while now. Glitchy IDM-Jazz-broken rhythms are once again coming into play in the new EP Reflection coming out on the 4th of June 2021. “ Reflection is pared down and confident, taking the listener through how the year felt as a young Black queer woman and her acolytes in a world that has suddenly stopped moving.”
Conforce/Hexagon/Versalife: Hexagon&Versalife V / A - Altered Sense 004 The emotional journey through Conforce/Versalife/Hexagon music is always unexpected, full of twists and turns and makes you move from the inside. I have (once again) discovered this artist with 3 aliases (yes all 3 aliases are producing amazing music) thanks to Luca Schiavoni’s refined record collection. In this last EP, coming forward with 2 of the aliases Hexagon & Versalife, there are four beautiful tracks, two of which are very Drexciya and the other 2 are very Hexagon broken rhythms charged with depth of sounds and emotions.
Marco Bruno - This EP is once again quality. The broken grooves, the powerful rhythm, and the soul behind every track is a testament of the great artist Marco Bruno is. This LP spreads across the genre of electronic music and it’s a must have record. The track No Regrets (feat Velvet May) is for me set to become a New Modern Classic. Also the Answer Code Request Remix of Devil’s Heaven is truly emotional.
Diego Amura: Pattern Series - The Neapolitan dj and producer has been making noise in the Napoli Techno Scene and the waves are reaching Europe. With support from Marcel Dettman, Stingray and residency for the NicetoBe party, Diego Amura is an exciting artist to watch!
Vesuvius Soul Records - The first VA and first ever release of Vesuvius Soul Records is an electronic music journey through IDM, glitchy sounds, acid patterns, and 4/4 to broken rhythms. Expressing the colourful soul of the artists of the city of Napoli, made of intense red lava coming from the Vesuvio, and the deep blue of the Mediterranean sea to form the contrasts of the Napoli lifestyle. This EP is fresh and makes you move.

Introducing
In this section we will introduce our presenters in their own words. We believe it’s the best way to understand their vision.
Aboutface presents ‘An ocean of ink in a single drop’. Bi-monthly every 4th Friday of the month.
Aboutface presents – an ocean of ink in a single drop is an ongoing experimentation that applies conceptual themes to explore an expanded approach to the traditional radio DJ performance, through live multi-instrument improvisation, spoken word/poetry and field recordings, mixed into and combined with genre-spanning music selections that include audience submissions or music from artists following my SoundCloud account. The aim of this residency is to create a surreal and layered experience, where the lines between the artist and audience, music and improvisation, scene and setting, all blur into an indistinguishable psychedelic journey that creates a unique space-time radio drama that depicts the complex interactions of humans, as a part of nature. Each episode is different is mood, feeling and has no creative boundaries: always performed live; never pre-recorded, and developed alongside original artworks and audio-visual films.
My artistic background is more related to conceptual art than as a DJ or musician: I identify flutes, guitars and synths as tools in the artistic palette, like paints, clay and photography, which is why over the last 5 years, all my live performances place the same importance all these materials, as a part of music performance itself. Following 5 years on NTS radio who purely aired my live performances, to have a new bi-monthly platform on Netil Radio to experiment new dj/live hybrid techniques, it’s greatly beneficial to my progression as a performer, challenging me to develop new methods of live improvisation and creative DJ techniques, much needed as due to the pandemic, it has been over 1 year since my last public conceptual performance, Holometaboly.
Future-wise, in addition to continuing my Netil Radio residency, I have a couple of LP’s to drop in the next few months, one on my own Coordinates label, and another on a well know UK based experimental label, TBA in the next month or so. Outside of my music practice, I am a researcher in the field of Ecomusicology, and due to start a PhD which looks at music collaboration with indigenous forest communities, to help mitigate climate change caused by human behaviours in industrialised cities, you can read more about this on my Los Bosquesinos project webpage.
If anyone would like their music, poetry or spoken word to be included in upcoming shows, hit me up via my website or social media. The next episode of ‘Aboutface presents – an ocean of ink in a single drop’, is on Friday 28th May 1pm-3pm. The performance theme is ‘The Journey to Intropica – a 5th dimensional utopia’.
That’s all for this week.
Stay tuned, stay connected until next one
