Hello & welcome back,
Hope you survived Easter with a glimpse of something we can call spring. The word survived comes to me automatically when I think of Easter, due to the very special way we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus in Slovakia, meant particularly for our female counterparts.
If you don’t know how we celebrate Easter in Slovakia, be aware - the following pictures contain violence and alcohol abuse.
Now you know. I’m sorry I made you click on it, but the world is a strange place and traditions are weird. Especially when you convert pagans to Christianity. Don’t ask me why. The reason I’m talking about it is that domestic and sexual abuse is out of control and traditions like the one in Slovakia are holding society back from its evolution.
I already mentioned that it’s hard to make jokes about current affairs. Incompetent populist politics is turning into such a bizarre circus that the jokes are actually very real. Institutions are falling apart, police can’t police themselves and abusers live in paradise. But did the world go mad or is it just the perception? A bit of both.
Perception does not correlate with reality. Negativity and hate are oversaturated through social media and we feel that the world is burning. Although it is, it’s not the way we think. The key solution is the regulation of social media to fix broken perceptions. To take away the amplifier from lunatics and set the rules. Social media are currently in the same state as when cars and horses were stuck in traffic jams because there were no rules. It’s not to “destroy” freedom but to actually protect it, just as traffic rules are not killing people, but protecting their lives.
The good news is that once we do so, fewer people will go mad. Luckily Elon spent money the didn’t really have to buy Twitter, so the process of social media regulation will accelerate towards solutions. Thanks, Elon, enjoy being the Twitter king while you can.
What will the regulation mean for freedom? A lot. We are losing freedom because there are no rules on what is appropriate and what is not on social media. It’s clear that it’s a privately owned public space. And if it’s logical to have checks and balances in real public and private spaces, it’s logical to do the same in virtual public or private spaces. Just imagine we act as we do in comment sections in real life. Those screaming about freedom would be the first to take everyone else's freedom, hanging everyone with a different opinion on their way to hell. The world will not be far from the Mad Max setting.
And while we get there with regulations, boys, we can try to cope with our hurt egos in small details. Remember, the real King knows where his throne is…
Thank you for reading and stay tuned,
Miro

It Takes Time Reviews Corner - April 2023 Edition

Low key all the way here on the very-search engine-unfriendly new label O Record. Two releases deep so far with Acting Press associates C3D-E and Hashman Deejay collaborating on both under the equally search engine-unfriendly name O. Side-note: sometimes Mood Hutter Hot Spring also features on the second 0 12” according to Discogs. RIYL lose, scratchy drawn out the dubby house and techno experiments that veer off the 4/4 grid down the wormhole whilst stretching out languidly across whole sides of a 12”. Every time I play these records, a new favourite springs forward which is a very good sign. FYI There is also a 0 Records bandcamp with digital versions of the first release! Wish I knew that before paying to get both 12”s shipped from Sound Metaphors in Berlin…..
✧ The Shiny People - Sun Dazzle - Equiknoxx Music ✧
The Shiny People is the latest collaborative project from Gavsborg and Shanique Marie, both central figures in Kingston’s Equiknoxx collective. Shanique has featured on loads of Equiknoxx material over the years, with 2020 Gavsborg collab ‘Did not make this for Jah_9’ a personal favourite! A new vibe here though with The Shiny People an outlet to explore ‘Jamaican Soul Music.’ A simple term perfectly captured on the two tracks here. ‘Feel’ is the standout…. So crunchy :D !!!!
