Words
Hello and welcome back,
It’s been an interesting week on all fronts, but one particular picture brought a cold and sharp breath of the past on my neck. Seeing Boris Johnson fighting drug gangs means only one thing - it’s over. I remember very well. In the early 00s, a police gun was pointed at me so many times during my DJ sets back in Slovakia, so much so - that it became some kind of “normal”.
Every election period, the period after election + anytime our government was trying to hide something, they came up with drug raids. Raids don't really solve the drug issue, don't hurt big crime gangs either, politicians look good on TV, and the world seems to be in balance.
But it’s 2021 and the UK has a much longer history of democracy as Slovakia had at that time. Funnily we don’t do many drug raids these days in Slovakia. In the last two years police and prosecutors have been busy handling corruption which feels very familiar to what has lurked in UK politics since Boris took over.
Government contracts with shady offshore companies, job positions for friends and family loyal to “the cause”, dangerous characters around politicians, people believe in imaginary issues… Today’s UK feels to me very much like Slovakia in the early 00s. Good thing is that this government has two more years to expose the ugliness of its “vision” for people to realise. And in two years - it’s in our hands.
On a different note - in the music business, everything is ticking along fine. At Least here in the UK; No one is cancelling anything, no concerns, no plans, just a party. Life is great.
At the end, same shout as last week - get a booster jab, wear a mask, wash your hands and think twice if it’s worth it, respectful and right to party right now.
