Hello and welcome back,
While the whole world is focused on Putin’s war crimes, Tower Hamlets council is starting its own war on modern society, targeting fetish parties Klub Verboten and Crossbreed. If any of you have ever been to their events, you know that there is no safer space for clubbers as these two parties in London.
Remember last year’s summer? Many called it Summer of Love 2.0, many expected the boom of raves full of love and happiness. But in reality, we had to sign a petition to Safe Space in Music, read news about drink spiking epidemic, or see people off their face like there is no tomorrow, ignoring science and the reality of the global pandemic. That led into a massive wave of covid positive ravers which affected everything, including our radio programming with 1-3 covid related cancellations a day all the way until December. But luckily there were safe havens too - like Klub Verboten.
While venues across the country failed to provide safe space, it was and it is Klub Verboten’s priority number one. While venues across the country strengthen their security, Klub Verboten is working with a team of people who are trained and knowledgeable about how to support and guide those who need it. And that is the key.
We all know why we go to regular venues. It’s not because of the spirit of the venue or its vision. It’s mainly because they can afford to book overpaid DJs and that is the only way to see and listen to their performance. Whilst, security guards are shouting at us like we are in the army's training camp, our privacy is exploited right on the door with an ID scanner monitor facing the queue, so everyone can see your name, your human rights are abused by security subsidising police work in “war on drugs” and anytime you reach into your pockets security jumps on you to check what you are selling. Is this fun?
“Tower Hamlets Council is relying on an outdated and moralistic licence condition that purports to prohibit ‘nudity and semi-nudity’ at clubbing venues to shut Klub Verboten down as early as this Friday. This type of condition was designed to stop unlawful lap dancing in venues across the borough, and not prohibit informed, consensual adults from nudity in safeguarded venues. Not only is the condition vague and unenforceable, the Council’s policies rely on outdated and discriminatory gendered stereotypes to define what is meant by ‘nudity and semi-nudity.” says Klub Verboten and we can only add that the entire licensing system should get a 2022 upgrade to prevent abuse of nightlife customers and ensure the vitality and viability of venues. .
In the meantime, keep an eye on Klub Verboten website for the actions coming to protect their vision. Tune in on Thursday 31st of March 9-11am for the special breakfast show with Karl Verboten and keep listening to Netil Radio as.. it’s good for you.
Thank you for reading and stay connected,
Miro
