Hello and welcome back,
Writing funny comments about today’s politics and society has become a tricky thing to do - Politics at the moment stands somewhere between Spitting Image, Team America and Teletubbies, and any ‘joke’ is now less parody and more reality. Does that mean we are doomed? Stay calm, because it seems like we are entering the climax of populism and from this moment forward, we are going to see its fall. I’m not saying it will happen next week, but it seems there might be some good news on the horizon.
The first bit of good news is that the Cult of Trump is only strong online and the red wave happened probably in his golden jacuzzi. No matter how much fake news Russians created for Tucker, or how much money has been laundered through the campaign, it’s just not reality. It’s the imaginary power of a very small group of people. We only have to take the amplifier from their hands to restore reality.
Speaking of amplifiers, even tech billionaires are not having a harsh time. Meta is planning to fire 11k people and it’s going to be interesting to hear what government institutions will have to say about such a visionary move. Space rockets maker is tweeting a real-time crash course on “how to” - buy something more complex than rocket science, ask dictators and criminals to finance it and become their “useful idiot” just - in a few weeks. It’s good to see that billionaires have no superpowers and it’s time they learn how far is too far. We don’t need social media. They need us.
More good news is appearing from Ukraine. It seems that all the support is worth doing. The emperor of the imaginary empire is losing his war, and Ukraine is proving its will to be an independent and free country, sacrificing lives to protect democracy for all of us.
Democracy also needs some protection here on our island. Please support strikes and demand general elections. Having a government that is not able to understand that they’re working for an institution in which they’re supposed to govern and serve, not for a delivery company. You can’t deliver something you haven’t first created.
Working from home because of the tube strike is no bad thing! You just need a good soundtrack.
Thank you for reading
