Words
Hello and welcome back to Netil Radio weekly,
Last week, we were very busy behind the scenes. It’s our 4th birthday in May! We will celebrate in a decent post pandemic way - safely, online and wisely on our open air terrace. Creating the line up is in full swing and preparations are underway. A quick blink at the list creates a wave of excitement. Mark your calendar - 29th, 30th and 31st of May.
We are also going to host a full day program at Number 90 and soundtrack their 7th Birthday weekend in their newly opened outdoor area. We will keep you posted about details closer to the date which is the 22nd of May.
In the meantime, we are looking for people who can contribute and help us to strengthen the connection between our station and the local community. If you know of any local campaigns, charity events, workshops, or if you know your local heroine or hero who is doing real work in the community - let us know about them! Email newsletter@netilradio.com with your tips on how to support and share the ‘good-to-know’ information. Just write “community Tips” in the subject of an email.
And don’t forget to come say hi to your favourite djs on our terrace, while enjoying great food and drink from Netil Market’s amazing selection of foodmakers.
Stay tuned, stay connected.

Our favourite shows from last week ✧ Ondo Onda with their trip through South America and Africa ✧ Shel and his tiny purse full of thumping techno, club, & hardcore energy ✧ Mr Shiver Show streamed live from his home in Margate ✧ 100-Rhytm with the Salvador Dali of rave Junior Tomlin ✧ benjaluwi’s new regular moment ✧ Yewen intensively shook the container during Neighbourhood Cotch show 🌪 ✧ and Luca released the tension of his extensive record shopping habits in E2-E8 show.

New Music
Naffi’s recent guest Bahla just released an album Life Long
Colectiva - Under The - is an ode to sisterhood, the wild and unbreakable spirit within each of us, and the healing power of music, from debut artists COLECTIVA, including our resident Penya member Lilli Elina.
One of our favourite labels Animals on Psychedelics decided to put all sold out vinyl releases digitally on their bandcamp. Gold from Vladimir Gnatenko, Jane Fitz’s side project Invisible Menders or even Miro’s first ever EP. Worth going through.
Eco Tips from Lucy Bee / Recycled Sounds
In celebration of last Thursday’s Earth Day here are a few eco recommendations on how to make small changes in your daily life to support the planet when food shopping...
• Buy from your local area and farmers market, avoid big supermarkets where it is more likely they ship food in.
A great app to try
Farmdrop - A London only app, for people looking for good quality organic fruit and vegetables. “The convenience of a supermarket, the quality of a farmer’s market.”
Also why not try out growing food at home…
• Plant and grow your own fruit and vegetables at home where possible !
Community Corner
Our new Monday breakfast show A Real SisterHood is a perfect example of connecting our station with the local community and giving the community a voice. Yolanda Lear, author of ‘The Journey To An Undefeated Mind' in conversation with host Charlotte about real problems of real people. Yolanda is very active and the list of organisations she works with is impressive. Just to name a few -
Hackney Account monitors and scrutinises police activity and whose purpose is to empower young people, generate knowledge, campaign for justice, and hold those in power to account.
Cool Down Cafe - safe space, to connect with peer mentors, build community and express yourself to explore your own health, or PoliticallyBlack.
Our long time resident Dan (Peace of Mind) sent us a few community tips too 🙏
Clapton Commons are based up around, you guessed it, Clapton Commons in north Hackney. They finished off a really cool renovation of Liberty Hall last year, and do lots of projects for the surrounding estates, while also involved with other organisations like Made in Hackney. The fundraising on the spacehive is to renovate space under a nearby church, and create more room for more goodness.
Rise 365 is a really progressive community group based near Homerton Hospital, in Kingsmead Estate, doing lots of different activities like providing emergency access to culturally appropriate food for the local community. It’s run, and it’s projects are carried out by local kids rather than the wealthy middle classers… support here
That’s all for this week
Stay tuned, stay connected
