Words
Greetings everyone,
Winter seems not very happy to leave us, but the sun is starting to take over. I’m happy you’re back to read what we are up to this week.
Our best news is that our terrace was open to the public yesterday! That means you can swing by the market, grab something delicious to eat and say hi to your favourite djs. We will also connect our outside speakers this weekend, having been silent for a while. We hope to soundtrack the market 5 days a week very soon. Exciting!
We have a new section in the newsletter - Eco News! Our new resident Lucy will pinch out a few cool things you can do to save our planet 🌍
Scroll down for bandcamp purchase tips, to listen back to last week’s favourite shows, and find out about exciting guests coming to our little container next week.
Stay tuned,
Miro
Listen Back
One of the highlights of last week for us was Alskua’s guest mix for a new show on the block: snackmachine. So nice!
Big Leg sent us Bits and greetings from Berlin, with dark vocal tones colouring the usual top-quality selections . dj ojo & k means were juggling hot potatoes of off-kilter ambient and experimental downtempo in their Avant Garbage, E2-E8 came through with an amazing guest mix by Prinfod, who’s bandcamp link is worth a check.
If you want to catch new records landing at Stranger Than Paradise, one of London’s best shops, their show is a great way to stay updated.
Coming Up
With StrettoBlaster, anything can happen. FFiume is back in the control room with his mate Filippo Papetti, possibly Italy’s laziest music critic and journalist, and head honcho at Spalato Wyale creative lab. Wednesday 11am-1pm.
3WD Festival will have PurpleHands, who’s throwing out a new release on Vinyl Hunter’s new label soon. Friday 3-5pm.
Teresa Winter will join Tony Poland to celebrate the release of Motto Of The Wheel, her new double album on Death of Rave. It Takes Time - Sunday 4-6pm.
And there is much more! You can find the full schedule for next week here.
New Music
Kolonel Djafaar’s debut release for member of our family Batov Records is an all-killer-no-filler EP. On “Bactrian Camel'' the four-man brass section picks up a thundering groove, only for the organ-led rhythm section to answer with their own snaking retort. Joris Wendelen’s electric guitar riffing adds a further Middle Eastern flavour to the stew.
Another family member, Penya released the first single from their upcoming album last week.
Eco News from Lucy Bee
Now that we are spending more time than ever online, our new resident Lucy wanted to share some environmentally friendly apps. Check out these two search engines that do good for the planet everytime you make a search...
• Ecosia - Plants trees with your searches.
• Ocean Hero - Cleans plastic bottles from the sea with your searches.
Lucy Bee hosts a monthly breakfast show Recycled Sounds plays music with samples and the topic of chat is focused on not only samples but also playing our part in being sustainable and protecting the environment. Recycled Sounds with Lucy Bee is on next Tuesday 27th April 9am-11am.
Introducing
In this section we will introduce our presenters in their own words. We believe it’s the best way to understand their vision.
A Worldwide Thing w/ IAMRISHA - every 1st Tuesday of the month 3-5pm
“I have been hosting a show called A Worldwide Thing on Netil Radio for nearly 3 years that focuses on Global Underground sounds. Think soul spread across electronica, jazz, hip-hop, Brazilian, house and anything and everything in-between. A few of my favourite labels include Soundway Records, Stones Throw, Brownswood, Warp, FarOut, ZZK to name a few and have had these wonderful minds behind them and their artists on the show as guests.
The love affair with these vibes started (many moons ago) when living in Brazil, where I got hooked on the rhythms and styles - this led me to go deeper as a crate digger and DJ. I've been lucky enough to host 'A Worldwide Thing' to the Indian audiences when living in Delhi and back in London on Radar Radio where I have now found a lovely home with Netil. The aim of the show is to take the audience on a journey worldwide, share good vibes and enjoy intimate chats with these creative minds on music and life.
I've been lucky enough to get involved in a few radio projects/partnerships with Worldwide FM, BBC Asian Network, Sonar's RBMA and the Brazilian Embassy that have allowed me to look at my sounds from different angles and connect/engage with the audiences in different ways. Two platforms doing a stellar job who I want to shout out are Musica Macondo and Boxout.fm (big up Tim & Mo.) The more collaborations the better is my philosophy.
Over the pandemic, I've truly missed DJing and sharing intimate studio chats with guests...but feeling hopeful as we turn a new chapter. Speaking of chapters, I am soon to be a mama! And can't wait to take my new one on this musical journey and explore the world through sounds.
Shouts to Miro for all his efforts and for keeping the Netil Radio community as strong as ever”

That’s it for this week. Stay tuned, stay connected
