Editorial
Words by Miro, from Slovak English translated by Amris
Hello and welcome back,
Seems like we need a small recap after the summer break, just to check if the world of politics and music is in the state we left it. Recaps help to adjust all elements needed for a good editorial. At first glance, everything seems fine - headlines are dominating the news, society is polarised enough and politicians are still able to discover and pompously deliver the lower depth of the low.
Revelations uncovering the painful reality is the new “hiding the truth”: the establishment is doing exactly what anti-establishment does and opposes itself so hard that any potential opposition is not able to find something to fight against. Luckily dictators are here to protect democracy. The only sad thing is that free speech is “moving to a small monthly payment” system.
Everything is fine in the music biz too! The ticket seller is shocked that corporations and shady investors see electronic music as another channel to launder dirty money or a despotic reputation. And that’s good because we are spared the shock therapy of realising who owns the “best” venues and runs the biggest events in our own backyard. But worry not, because the most expensive internet player is fighting gangs with the effort of a caped crusader, or someone who really needs to hide something. As I said, everything is fine, everything is… Extraordinary is the right word.
If you feel it’s intense and overwhelming and you just wanna go to another planet, you are not alone. That would be the easy solution in the alternative reality. In actual reality, we have to accept that there is no other planet we can go to yet, there will be no sane politicians if we don’t vote for them, and there will be no real rave if we keep selling tickets on RA while “breaking” the social media algorithms with selfies and results identical to those of Sisyphus trying his stone algorithm.
Last week I mentioned my new experiment to actually break the industry standards. Next week we’ll dive in and talk about selling tickets online with better control over buyers’ data, and its connection to a safe and inclusive environment. Excited? Good, because excitement needs a good soundtrack and I know where to tune in to one.
Thank you for reading and stay connected
