Hello and welcome back,
I hope you had a nice easter time somewhere peaceful or a good rave through the extended weekend. Or both. Speaking of raves, festival season is coming and in the last few weeks we learned that there will be much fewer small festivals this year in the UK and to be honest, I am not so sure if that's a bad thing.
On Tuesday 26th of March, the Culture, Media & Sport Committee held a session as a part of the “short inquiry into the ongoing crisis facing grassroots music venues” and it was something. A full picture of bleak reality, industry experts and professionals explaining the situation to politicians and the corporations within the industry coming up with ridiculous proposals defending all undefeatable. It's an extraordinary read with the climax in the form of saving grassroots venues by charging You - the ticket buyer - an extra quid on top of already not-so-grassroots prices. Beautiful. And complicated, obviously, without this one magical solution which will solve the problems through one short inquiry into an ongoing crisis.
It’s hard to decide where to start because pretty much everything needs some solution, change or emergency intervention. Well… I believe that this is where You become very important and you don’t even have to donate anything to save something. And what is exciting is that it’s where your true freedom of expression begins. The only tricky part is that we still don’t have the date yet.
So far we only know that the moment of action each one of you can contribute and the key to all possible solutions will come “in the second half” of 2024. General Elections are where any change has a chance to start.
The current government is not able to find competent people to govern and serve, therefore any genius idea to fix something will crash on the wall of this simple reality. Let’s be honest, I don’t think there is one institution in this country functioning to its purpose. Without functioning institutions served by competent people, we will not be able to change anything. One of the reasons we have this incompetent government is that many young people simply don’t exercise their most important right to choose people working for us because this is the actual point of elections - to choose people who will temporarily work for us - citizens of this country.
It’s a fundamental element of our freedom and as a person who remembers how it was when my parents had to vote and of course, they knew exactly which party they had to vote for. The power of your choice is much stronger than you might think looking at politicians these days and that’s why they keep trying to fool us pushing the boundaries of our tolerance higher deepening the already low.
I spent hours, days and months thinking, reading, listening and talking with people and I strongly believe that just a simple change for more competence will make every idea and solution worth the energy used to create and innovate.
Happy spring! And you know where to find the perfect soundtrack as you wait for the GE date announcement.
Thank you for reading and stay connected
