Editorial
Words by Miro, from Slovak English translated by Amris
Hello and welcome back,
Anytime I’m looking for editorial inspiration, I browse music magazines and all relevant mimic websites. They never fail to make me, a simple guy from a rural country, chuckle. Then my OCD logic gives a high-five to the dark lord of sarcasm inside of me. Just so you can have fun before you scroll down to all the important info and links.
It’s always exciting when the saviour comes to the rescue. Bringing fairness to somewhere it was never present is a hard task to define, and extraordinary to achieve. So we have James Blake back and it’s not a dreamy pop album he is launching. Vault FM is a… platform, which will bring fairness to creators’ existence in the muddy and polluted waters of the music business. Where the most ridiculous copy of Winamp failed, the new platform will take over. But it’s still early and so far the only profile you can support financially is James Blake. When you sign up, the first limit comes in the second step of setting up your profile and the fairness is literally visualised - James Blake x mirosundaymusiq. Beautiful.
Platforms. It’s like a community - everyone wants to have one, instead of just being a part of the one functioning. Seems like DJs need their own Bandcamp because Soundcloud is not enough for all the mixes and you can’t upload them on Bandcamp. Makes sense - the same kind of sense as XXX company setting up an account for you, so they don’t charge any fee, you only pay the XXX fees. And subscription. That’s a new donation kind of thing, but their services are free. In exchange for your data. If you didn’t know.
Confused? Don't be. Everything I wrote is purely a critical thinking exercise and only the future will tell if any exciting idea is able to withstand the harsh conditions of reality. Like the obsolete and currently malfunctioning business model of “independent” festivals, which simply means there might be many fewer festivals for which you can buy early bird tickets. Seen from the positive side of the misery, at least you can choose the one or two you really wanna go to.
To choose wisely, you need a good soundtrack. We have you covered.
Thank you for reading and stay connected

○ Gaussian Curve ○ Winter Sun ○ Music From Memory ○
Gaussian Curve; a normal distribution of the continually random real-world variables? Or one of the recent-time ambient supergroups? Both are true, and I’ll tell you the recent release is exhibiting a positive skew.
The suspensefully blissful sound created by Gigi Masin, Johnny Nash and Young Marco has always felt a touch of sorrow in its moment, amplifying a sense of retrospective nostalgia, sad yet still positive; safe. The latest Single, Winter Sun/ Fever Dream raises that familiar, comforting, sound into an optimistic light.
Exactly as it says on the tin, the Winter Sun brings that same positive warmth that the fleeting January sun does when it kisses your sheltered face; It’ll all be okay, we’ll get there. Your mind isn’t drifting off to reassuring places in the past, it’s getting excited for the adventures ahead. A great song to drift off to when travelling I have to say.
Fever Dream builds on this positivity, and puts it into motion, the dancing between each other, of each component, all tied together with the long strings. The playful motion, the daydream you have of the things to come.
The world has been through a lot since the last two iconic releases of Clouds and The Distance on Music from Memory (wow 2015 and 2017, that’s ageing me) and this couldn’t have come at a better time. Dream of the future, and make it bright.
